  • Blogging Jargons That You Must Know

    Before we get into the thick of things, here are some common blogging jargons that you should know of.

    a)      Archives – Literally, this means a storage of articles on a chronological manner. Typically seen on a sidebar

    b)      Blogosphere – The blogging community

    c)      Comments – Abilities for readers to post their opinion, agree or disagree

    d)      blogging-jargons.JPGComment Spam – Bogus comments that are automatically written in the blogs – most of them advertisements

    e)       Description – Basically, it is the text  that identifies blog content or purpose

    f)         Display Name – A pseudo name, typically used in place of the original name

    g)       Draft – A blog post which is the first cut before the original is published

    h)       Forms – A place containing text boxes for title and body of the posts that are automatically formatted when published

    i)        Keywords – Words that relate to your product or market, usually included in the titles, description and posts. Keywords attract search engines.

    j)        Links – A connector that connects you to a different webpage or product

    k)      Moblog – Acronym for Mobile Blog. A blog that can be updated remotely from anywhere using mobile or a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant)

    l)        News Readers – Softare that permits subscribers to scan the headlines, its snapshot etc

    m)    News Aggregator – Software that permits to capture single file posts and comments that are assembled from several blogs. Also called as RSS Aggregator

    n)      Permalink – These are web addresses of individual posts. Helps bloggers to link back to that particular article

    o)      Photoblog – A blog primarily consisting of photos, posted on a regular basis and chronologically

    p)      Ping – A software that notifies the search engine whenever new posts are published

    q)      Podcasting – RSS Technology that syndicates MP3 audio files

    r)        Post – An article that is posted

    s)      RSS – A popular format for announcing blog updates. Stands for Really Simple Syndication. Also called as RSS Feeds

    t)        Syndicate – A feature that informs when new posts or comments have been published on your blog

    u)      Template – Quite obvious – a feature that allows consistent layout, structure of posts, typography, slots for pictures etc,

    v)        Timestamp – Time and date information automatically added to the individual posts and comments

    w)     Trackbacks – A feature that allows the blogger to keep track of his post on other’s blogs by using permalinks

    x)       Wiki – A website that can be easily updated by any visitor. Similar to blogs but different.
